Document Interpretation 1: Clash of Cultures Reflection
An assignment that we completed this semester that I felt helped improve my academic skills would be document interpretation 1: the clash of cultures. I definitely felt like my analyzing skills got better and it really got me to read through the text rather than over it, it you get what I mean. All four readings were very insightful and I felt like I learned a lot after finishing this assignment and listed down 20 new insights. It really did change my perspective on Christopher Columbus and gave me a sympathetic outlook on the natives. I always viewed Columbus as a good guy, which I mean we have a holiday all about this guy. After reading these 4 excerpts, it really made me think that this guy definitely doesn't deserve to be called a hero. Even though I felt like my analyzing skills got better through this assignment, I still have some improving to do. I need to widen my creativity and deepen my thoughts towards really getting behind the meaning of everything I'm reading. I felt like a lot of the insights I was writing were pretty similar and I need to get out of habit of being redundant. I know that with all the following document interpretations, I will learn to be better at interpreting what I'm reading and really getting some useful insights out of it.
