Now that it’s the end of the
semester, I feel so satisfied with all the work I’ve done. The one thing that
made me feel most successful this semester was my math class. It was the only
class I actually knew what I was doing, and I enjoyed it. People always ask me
how I can enjoy such a dreadful subject, and honestly, it’s probably because I’m
good at it. Even if I am good at math, it doesn’t mean I actually enjoy the
subject itself. I enjoy feeling confident in the class and how comfortable I feel
with being around everyone. The teacher also played a big role in my success
because he was a great professor. What really made me feel the most successful
was that I had the ability to tutor people in that class. Since they knew I had
the ability to help them pass, I took the opportunity to spread my knowledge. I
would get study sessions going and I really felt like I got them ready for
finals. It really made me feel good because I know how much they appreciated
the help. I know because they thank me all the time. I honestly love the
feeling of tutoring for free. As much as I want the money, I don’t feel like I should
tutor for a prize. I should tutor because I want to. This way, I know I’m not
being forced and I’m doing it for my own pleasure.
In my midterm reflection, I talked about how much I struggled on writing essays for English 100. Now that I’m done with the reflection, I feel like I’ve at least improved a little on my essay writing. I went from getting C- to C+. It’s not that big of a jump, but I’m so close to a B that I think I might be able to make it to English 1A. When I was writing an in-class essay, she wrote, “Good development, Wylene!” That made me feel good because the whole first half of the semester, I felt like I was going to fail. This might also mean that I’m a better writer in-class than out of class. I do get more points out there under pressure because I want to include everything I want to say before the time runs out. When it comes to writing out of class, it’s hard for me to concentrate and that’s why I have a hard time writing more than the minimum. I feel like I have improved because I took advantage of my resources. I would sit in the TLC all the time and get help on my essays between classes. Also, I would get help from my professor herself during office hours. With all this help, my essay writing should get much better in no time. |
