Virtual Field Trip-Pre 1492: Medieval Europe Reflection
I definitely learned a lot from this assignment. I really enjoyed this assignment because I am very much into interactive education, especially when it comes to subjects I am not very fond of. I could really see myself living during the Medieval Ages while going through this virtual assignment. I also enjoyed learning about how Medieval Europe influenced early US History. I definitely finished this up knowing more about this time. I could've done better in analyzing all this information if I wasn't rushing to finish it up. I tend to leave things until last minute, which was one of the things I wanted to work on this semester. It didn't turn out quite well, but I feel like it's a good enough explanation about what Medieval Europe is all about. I also feel like if I went to work on this at the library it would've been better because I can't really seem to focus when I do homework at home, no matter how quiet it is. It's just too comfortable at my house to get work done. Other than that, I feel like I did pretty well on getting this assignment done.
When I think Medieval Europe, I think the Middle Ages. The people who lived during this time included kings, queens, knights, bishops, pilgrims, peasants (serfs) etc. The Middle Ages took place between the fifth and fifteenth century in Western Europe. People who lived in the Middle Ages decided to form communities, quite small ones, around a lord/master to keep them in safe ground. During this time, the people lived under a feudal system, which consisted of the king giving land grants to the his bishops and barons as long as they join his army as soldiers. The peasants, or serfs, were kept protected as long as they work and live on the king's land. When it comes to religion, the only Church that was present during the Middle Ages was Catholic and it had their own laws aside from the government. The bishops and archbishops, as church leaders, were part of the King's council and had leading roles in the government.
Medieval Europe influenced early US history in ways like how printing began in 1450 with Johannes Gutenberg's "The Bible." Other inventions that came out during the Middle Ages included guns, clocks and mills. Also, the birth of the Renaissance started in the fifteenth century with inventions from Leonardo Da Vinci for example.
